FREQENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you see the lake from the park?
No.
The park adjoins the Corps of Engineer land which means no private
property between the park and Lake Sam Rayburn. The lake is about
4/10 of a mile through the woods. There is a Natural Trail that
you can walk to the lake and enjoy the natural setting on Corps of
Engineer land.
Can we ride 4 wheelers in the park or to the lake?
No. Motorized vehicles are prohibited on Corps of
Engineer land and off road vehicles are prohibited at Rayburn RV
Hideout. (Note: On Corps of Engineer land bicycles, horses
are not permitted except in designated areas. The area around our
park is NOT a designated area.)
Can we swim or launch our boat? There is
no restriction on swimming at the lake front. The area at the end
of the Natural Trail is not a managed beach and no life guard is
present, and as it is along all the shoreline it is swim at your own
risk. You can beach your boat at the end of the trail as it is
natural shoreline, and leave it there for a period of time. It is
not recommended to leave your boat beached overnight. The Corps of
Engineer boat ramps are located close to the park. There are no
private boat ramps near the park.
How much does it cost to go camping?
Camping rates and other information can be found on our
rate page.
Why is there an extra person charge? Our
rate includes up to 4 people per campsite. Above that number there
is an extra person charge to cover the costs associated with additional
people. Most parks charge an additional person charge after two
guests.
If I want to rent a site by the month to leave my trailer or
RV, do I get a discount for the times I am not occupying it?
No.
How far are you from the nearest town?
Jasper is 17 miles away and has major stores such as Brookshire Brothers
Grocery, Super Wal-Mart, Lowes, Baskin Department Store as well as a
good assortment of local stores.
Do you have cabins or trailers to rent?
No, we only rent campsites.
Do you rent tent sites? Yes, our
campsites can be used for tent or RV camping. We do not have
"dedicated" sites just for tents, nor do we have sites "dedicated" just
for RV's.
Why are most of your sites already taken on a holiday?
We rent our sites by the day, week or month. Sites
that are rented on a long term basis (we define long term as a month
rental) are shown not to be available for rent. We also have a
large number of repeat guests who make their reservations in advance for
holidays. We restrict one site (Site #17) from a long
term rental and that is why that site is generally shown available for a
holiday.
Do you have high speed internet? Yes, we
offer free wireless internet to our guests. Please see our
WiFi
page for details.
Do I need a reservation? Sometimes you
do as camping is a year round activity and it also depends on what
activities are going on in the area or on the lake. We do
recommend one.
Do you honor a discount or club card?
No. We offer the same rate to all our guests regardless of age or
affiliation with different clubs. We feel this is a better policy
than raising the rate so we can discount the rate. If you feel the need
to use a discount card let us know and we will be happy to adjust our
rate upward to accommodate your card.
Do you allow pets? Yes. Our rules
on pets are simple. They need to be leashed and under your
control, you need to clean up after them and they cannot be a nuisance
to other guests. We consider excessive barking to be a nuisance.
Do you have cable TV? No. Cable TV
is not provided in this area. You can generally receive signals
from the stations in the Beaumont or Lufkin area.
Do you have a swimming pool or hot tub?
No.
How well does my cell phone work? It
depends on your carrier and phone. Cell phone reception has
improved in the area but it does not guarantee that you will receive a
signal.
How does a question get listed on this page?
By being asked enough in phone calls or emails. Most of the
question asked above are answered in our website. If you would
like to see a question listed, just call us enough and ask it enough
times and it will appear! (and who said campground owners don't
have a sense of humor?)
